Technology, just like life, moves extremely fast.
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Ferris Bueller
It sometimes seems that as soon as we figure out how to use the latest technology, everything changes. We all have access to information like never before, and when someone visits your website or even a social media page for your business, you often only have precious seconds to make a great first impression. Today I’d like to share with you 4 simple techniques to showcase your business online.
1. Clean Site Design
Keep it simple. Your internet presence should be visually clean, clear, and communicate your strategic messaging. (And yes, this means no dancing bears. I’m sure they were popular once, but no more… 😉 I always recommend WordPress, because it’s so easily customized and provides you with a platform to quickly update and refresh your messaging, content, and latest news or blog for your business.
2. Clear Vision
Make sure your vision is front and center on your website. Not just what your business does – but why. Simon Sinek made an excellent point when he stated that “People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it. And what you do simply proves what you believe.” So, why are you in business? What is your vision? Your home page should communicate that and compel your visitors to learn more.
3. Connect
Make sure you’re taking advantage of social media to connect with both your current and potential customers among other audiences. It’s truly a necessity to have a presence on all of the major social media outlets, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, among others. With a WordPress website, there are even ways to automate your news and blog posts to seamlessly push to all of the social media outlets, as well as an email newsletter and RSS feed. Give people plenty of ways to stay connected.
4. Communicate
Instead of thinking of your website as a static billboard for your business, think of it as a platform for communication. I’m sure that you’re an expert in whatever niche that your business is in. But the search engines (such as Google or Bing) need to know it too. By making sure your website has fresh, regularly updated content, you greatly increase the likelihood that your potential customers will find you online. Did you know that the search engines will “crawl” your site for information daily if you update your website with fresh content often? This means that your business will show right at the top when someone searches online for what you do. Think creatively about what content your audience would be interested in. Not only will potential customers be more likely to find you online, but consistent communication will also ensure that your current customers keep you top-of-mind.
